Collecting the blocks of slate

This massive block is an example of slate I use. It is separated by tapping with hammer and screwdriver on the edge to separate into individual slates

An outline is scratched into the underside of the slate and through something coin to vice -art the slate is broken off.

The
slate is then drilled. Sometimes especially for an 8 story high fountain like this a cardboard dummy mock up is made.

Fountain ready for gluing and assembly. This fountain was already put together dry to see if it fit okay then taken apart.

Copper pipe keeps everything going straight up

The slate unit or skeleton is complete.This unit will have another layer of slate added to the bottom making it 18" high

Finished product with agate slices and Rose Quartz on top added. Will be placed in a 18" diameter bowl
