Quarries in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and mines in Canada are some of the sources of the materials used in all Overbrook Fountains.

This massive block is an example of slate I use. It is separated by tapping with hammer and screwdriver on the edge to separate into indiviual slates

>> click on the image to see the description >>An outline is scratched into the underside of the slate and through something coin to vice -art the slate is broken off.

If it is done correctly the underside will have an even edge and the top side which will have lots of character -shapes etc.

>> click on the image to see the description >>The slate is then drilled. Sometimes especially for an 8 story high fountain like this a cardboard dummy mock up is made.

Fountain ready for gluing and assembly. This fountain was already put together dry to see if it fit okay then taken apart.

The slate unit or skeleton is complete.
This unit will have another layer of slate added to the bottom and placed in an 18 inch bowl and agate slices will be added to the layers.
